Gandrung is a most popular Banyuwangi's art performance. Gandrung the meaning is “desperately in love”. It is mean that Banyuwangi/Blambangan People are in love  to Goddess Sri that, The  Rice Paddy Goddess bringing prosperity for society. Expression feel the society thanks to each, every used up harvest to realize an gladness,  joy form as appearance Gandrung this time. In gratitude for the good harvest, the people organize a performance which is called “Gandrung” because the farmers were in love with the goddess of the rice paddy.

Staging of Kesenia Gandrung [is] usually carried out at night start at 21.00 - 04.00 morning. Some time, Gandrung show in the morning or noon. This is cauded by some emergency reason or just for art performance. Gandrung danced by 8 until 10 people.

The government of Banyuwangi gives special attention to the art of Gandrung. The purpose of this is to encourage the spirit of local ethnicity that will in turn increase the development of tourism. For this reason, Gandrung was determined to be the mascot of tourism in Banyuwangi according to the Banyuwangi Regency Decision, Number 173 in 2002.
