Seblang Bakungan is a ceremony of countryside hallowing. This ceremony doing one night after Idul Adha (an Islamic holiday). Intention of this ceremony is refuse the balak (evil), by performing at the night, after magrib (sunset). Every people make the tumpeng and pecel pitik. Event opened by Oncor Parade (Oncor is a like candle from bamboo with petrol as a fuel) around trip thru the countryside. This activity called Ider Bumi (Ider=arround/trip, Bumi=earth).
After Ider Bumi finished, tumpeng placed in place arena of Seblang. Prayer led by Kyai (Moslem Leader), and then tumpeng alloted for Visitors and Natives. Seblang Bakungan danced by a old woman in front of Sanggar (Holly place for pray or meditation). After given supertitous formula he dance in a state of trance. Song of Sablang there are 12 which contents narrate about agains to Dutch colonist. Activity end at midnight after event "Adol Kembang" (Adol=Sell, Kembang=Flower). The spectators, then, snatch away the seeds, plants and wind mill on the stage/sanggar. All of Goods trusted serve the purpose of appliance of repellent balak.
Patrol Traditional Performance Patrol is the typical ethnic music of Banyuwangi where all the musical instruments are made of Bamboo. They are katir, gong kemput, angklung renteng, kethuk, kendhang and flute. This composition is a culture activity of the native Banyuwanginese. The patrolis is performed during a night of the fasting month (Ramadhan:based on the calendar of Islam). The main purpose of the performance is to guard the village and wake the people up to eat sahur. The songs are taken from the Kitab Berjanji and are traditional songs of Banyuwangi. Groups from all of the villages in Banyuwangi participat in the festival of Patrol Music. A musical group is comprise of 15 persons. |
